St. Albert Priory, Oakland California

January 9, 2012

The quiet acres of the Priory of St. Albert the Great in Oakland, California provide an ideal place for study and prayer as the friars who have finished their novice year pursue their formation for teh Western Dominican Province of the Dominican Order.

The student brothers grow in their understanding of their religious life as Dominicans as they also delve deeply into the intellectual patrimony of the Order of Preachers, especially its famous Universal Theologians,  St. Albert the Great and St. Thomas Aquinas.  These two Dominican friars have left the Church a wealth of wisdom and knowledge that is fundamental to understanding our Catholic identity.

Using St. Thomas as a springboard and a compass, the friars study Philosophy, Scripture, Church History, Spirituality, Dogma, Fundamental Theology, Morality and many other disciplines in conjunction with their efforts to know and understand other ancient, modern and contemporary thinkers.

It is with this solid foundation that our friars are prepared to dialogue with the world in a way that respects what is good and true, while challenging the frivolous and error-prone isms of our modern world.

If you feel called to join in this endeavor either as a cooperator brother or a priest, please do consider contacting our vocation director.  You never know what might happen.
